Two different jobs
Workflow automation answers: what should happen to this case next, and is a person required? The result is an updated record, a task, a filed document, or an exception waiting in a queue.
An AI copilot answers: what does the approved knowledge say, and can you prepare a draft I can review? The result is an answer with the source named, or a refusal when the source is missing. The person decides whether it is filed or sent.
Where teams confuse them
A chat window that replies to customers is not a workflow, and it is not automatically a copilot. If the reply can leave the building without a person, that is a policy decision, not a feature of the model. Aurneon does not ship that as the default. The copilot stays inside the tool the team already uses, limited to the knowledge that role may see.
A workflow that calls a model to classify a document can still be a workflow. The model is a step. The policy decides whether the classification is allowed to move the case or must wait for review.
Which one to commission first
If the pain is a handoff — leads, invoices, reminders, a report — commission the workflow. If the pain is search and rewriting inside a job that already has a system of record, commission the copilot after the sources and the permissions are named.
Doing both on day one usually means neither path is measurable. Aurneon would rather agree one baseline.
